NI AMR Network – "Focus on Pharmacy" 

A “One Healthapproach to Antimicrobial Resistance through academia, industry and government collaborating to find compelling global solutions

 

This “Focus on Pharmacy” workshop has been designed to facilitate networking and discussion of medicines management, alternatives to antibiotics and rapid diagnostics. The pressing need for solutions in this area is reinforced by the recent UK Government funded Review on Antimicrobial Resistance. Attendees will also hear of new AMR funding initiatives such as Longitude Discovery Awards, the Joint UK Research Council Initiative on AMR and the Agri-Food Competence Centre.

QUBAN is pleased to announce the first in the series of QUBAN seminars.

This first seminar will feature guest speaker Dr Stephan Reuter of the Leibniz Institute for Plasma Science and Technology, the largest non-university institute involved in the research of low-temperature plasmas and their technical applications.

Dr Reuter's presentation, entitled "Plasma in Life Science" will take place on Thursday the 3rd of March at 4pm in the Emeleus lecture theatre*, Queen's University Belfast.

Antimicrobial Resistance Diagnostics Challenge (AMR DxC)

QUBAN members are invited to apply for one of 20 funded places at the AMR DxC Autumn School in Edinburgh, Scotland on 16-20 November 2015 - a pilot event for the 2016 Antimicrobial Resistance Diagnostics Challenge (AMR DxC). This event offers QUBAN members the chance to attend a high profile series of seminars, and converse with international AMR experts on themes around AMR diagnostics, innovation, interdisciplinary thinking, international collaboration and AMR DxC. The Autumn School coincides with other AMR events in Scotland and, additionally, the organisers will offer sponsored registrations for Autumn School attendees to the FIS 2015: Action on Infection Conference in Glasgow (21-23 November).

APS - "Stimulating Antimicrobial Innovation"

Members of QUBAN are invited to attend this event, which is a one day meeting focussing on recent and current innovation in antimicrobials. The event will be held on Thursday 22nd October 2015 at the National Heart and Lung Institute, Imperial College, London, and is organised by the APS Microbiology and Anti-infectives Focus Group.

Amongst other activities, the keynote lecture will be delivered by Professor Sir Anthony Coates, Professor of Medical Microbiology at St George's, University of London and Chief Scientist officer at Helperby, a spin-out of the UK’s University of London St George’s. Anthony Coates is one of the world’s foremost experts in antibiotic resistance. In addition, there will be sessions on novel therapeutic targets for anti-infective development, antibiotic discovery from natural sources, novel antibiotic discovery platforms, the SME perspective and ‘meet the funders’.
